Template macros disabled (Word 2000)

This has happened to me several times now on different machines in different places, both home and at work sites. I work on a template developing a macro. The macro runs as expected many times. Suddenly, when I try to activate it, I get an Exclamation Message Box with this message:

"The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security settings."

There is now no way I can run any macro in this particular template. However I have not touched my macro security settings which remain, when I check, at Low. The macros in all my other templates continue to work normally. I am unable to get the macros in this particular template working again.

I have to reopen an earlier version, copy my new code (from the new template that no longer works) into the old version, and away I go, with all macros running again.

Does anyone know the cause of this very annoying problem, and how to get around it?

    Thanks in advance

I don't have Word 2000, but 2002 is the same I think. It has a Trusted Sources tab on the Security dialog (Security button on the Word Visual Basic Toolbar). What boxes are checked on that tab page? Check 'em both and try running your disabled macros again.

Thanks for the suggestion Kevin but it doesn't help. The Trusted Sources tab has one checkbox - Trust all installed add-ins and templates. This is checked, but I am still locked out.

    Hi Peter:

I don't know if this will help, but it's a KB article on one cause. This relates to EZ Photo, but I suppose that another Add-in could affect it. Start Word from the command line (Start/Run/ & type "winword.exe /a" (no quotes). Then try opening your template.

If Wiord is your E-mail editor & you have Outlook running, you might try closing Outlook or checking the security settings there. I admit that much of this is a guess based on some things I've read. Good luck.
