DVD drive does not see disk and will not run.

HI, I have an HP laptop with win 7, I rarely use the drive but yesterday I put a Netflix DVD in to watch and all I got was "please insert disk" , which of course was in. I have searched HP (a waste of time) and Googled the problem and tried some of those suggestions, to no avail. So again I go to the best, the "Lounge". If somebody can help I will be very grateful. Thanks, Stan

Don't know if this will help. But I have a similar prob. I put a dvd in and nothing happens.

But I found if I right click on the dvd drive and select properties, then click on the hardware tab and then select the drive and then click the properties button. The disk will mount.

I wonder if this is an UpperFilters, LowerFilters problem. This article was specifically written for Vista, but works in Win 7 as well.

aloarja810 Thank you, I got it to work, it seems that I forgot that I had set the drive to "Region 2" which was Europe, where we spent last summer and there played disks. Going to properties and properties again brought up the list of countries and when I reset to the US "Region 1" it started to play. Again I thank you, I don't think I would ever have figured that out without your heads up. Take care....Stan
