Cursor continues to spin in Word but not Exxcel?

I have this problem, using a Xerox Phaser laser printer with Win7 64bit and Office 2010. When I open Word the cursor continues to spin as though it is busy. But when i open Excel or Outlook 2010, no problems. What I have found on the web, is if I replace the default driver (xerox phase 6180) with my PDF printer, the problem goes away in Word. It is very strange. Anyone have an answer?

In Word you can try going to File, Options, Add-ins and disable any addins that are enabled. Add-ins start everytime you start Word, and can slow the opening process down.
You could also try running a repair on Office.

    Repair your Office programs
1.Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
2.Click the Office program you want to repair, and then click Change.
3.Click Repair > Continue. You might need to restart your computer after the repair is complete.

I already tried that and it didn't fix the problem.
