    Excel Options question

    Is there a way to set Excel 2007 so that any new spreadsheet I create has the option for Formulas default to having just the "manual" radio-button set "on"?

    I don't want spreadsheets to automatically recalculate formulas when I open them.

    Thanks,
    Dick

    Dick,

    The option for this is not on a worksheet basis but for Excel in general. Thus if you change it Manual Calculation will be in effect for all workbooks not just new ones.
    I don't currently have 2007 loaded but it's here for 2010.

    You could create some VBA to turn manual calculation on and place it in the Auto_Open subroutine and place that in your Normal.xls file and then any new workbooks you create would automatically turn it off when they were started then you could just delete the code in any workbook where you wanted Automatic Calculation to be in effect.
    Code:
    Option Explicit

    Sub Auto_Open()

        Application.Calculation = xlManual

    End Sub
    Of course you'd need to change it back in a Before_Close macro.
