    MSE KB2754296 update problem

Had 7 unsuccessful attempts this morning. On 8th try after suspending Outpost Firewall it was finally successful. Not sure if that helped or not just throwing it out here.

I am new to MSE so am curious. All appears as if it's working and protecting.

There are quite a few updates that seem to get blocked by security S/W. There are times disabling a security app will allow the update to take place. The better alternative in these cases may be to download the update in question from MS and save it to your PC, disconnect from the internet, then disable your security apps prior to running the update. Once the update has completed you can enable any security apps you disabled, then re-connect to the internet.

OK, I have never attempted to download and save a Windows update and do not have a clue as to how it's done. As I've said before look at my user name it should be self explanatory.

Yes and truth be told it might have been an Internet problem/connection etc. I just thought I would dump it on here in case others had same. Just switched from AVG couple weeks ago to MSE so all is new

The updates usually give a MS site to get more info and generally from there you can find a download of the KB article. This is only needed for those few updates that do not install.

MSE KB2754296 update fail - Solved

I had the MSE update problem with XP, and found the suggested (MS) solutions too much trouble

This may help regardless which OS :
First go to the MSE page and from there download the latest version of MSE to your local Download directory.
    Then disconnect the internet physically.
press start , enter Control panel, Go to the add/ remove programs, find the old MSE installation and uninstall it.
leave Control panel, open Downloads and activate the MSE installation.
Once MSE is installed, reconnect the internet, reboot and update the MSE definitions.
Then I use CCleaner to free any leftover clutter form the registry.
That did it for me. Hope that others may benefit.
the procedure may help in similar update problems too.
I also have to download the malware removal tool and run it manually.
