    Missing Sys Tray icons

I know that this subject has been around for awhile and that fact makes Microsofts response to the problem pathetic. Each time I re-boot, I get different icons showing up. Especially problematic is the Sound icon. There is a fix for this by using MS Fixit #50229. which I have done numerous times. Whenever I go to the icon notification page, I am not able to make any manual changes. These changes are supposedly done by my administrator, who happens to be me since I am the only user and my User Account says Administrator. It is driving me crazy, especially since I can't control the sound when you go to pages like MSNBC who has ads coming up all the time. My understanding of Fixit's is that they are provided as temporary until an update or patch is provided. In this case even the solution is temporary!!! I appreciate any suggestions! Thanks.

Try Option 1 or Option 2 here: How to Enable or Disable Changing "Notification Area Icons" Settings in Windows 7

Although some Fix Its are temporary until a patch is provided, I think the majority are not.
