Thanks for the link Banyarola. I downloaded and ran mbar.exe but the program gets to a certain point and crashes every time. Also, when I open the read me file I am told to use Ctrl+click to open links but when I do I am told "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in place on this computer. Contact your system administrator". I am the only user and running as administrator or Taking Ownership makes no difference.

I appreciate the program is in beta but do you have any ideas about this?

I have no idea roy...I ran it and it ran fine.
If you open the folder where it is open the README.rtf file and that is the help file. I know you did that but try it again.

Also, maybe it got corrupted during the download so I would suggest downloading it again.

Extract all the files to the same folder you have the original ZIP file...

I think it says in the readme that some system could have problems with it being it's a BEta.

I'll attach the readme file to this reply.

    Hey Y'all,

I just ran this on my Laptop Win-7 SP-1 64 Bit and it ran just fine. Of course I took an image backup before attemption it just in case and to keep Ted off my back.
Next I'll backup my desktop and give it a whorl there.

Downloaded and ran Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit BETA on my Windows 8 system, it got partway through a scan before
Windows closed it due to an unspecified issue.

Extracted contents and ran from within the folder; same outcome as above.

    Hey Again,

Ok, I've imaged my Desktop {dual boot Win-8/7} and installed and ran the Anti-Rootkit BETA successfully on the Win-8 side.
I did run into one unexpected message before the program even opened it's window.
    appinit_dlls message.JPG
I clicked the No button and all proceeded w/o problem.
I went back into the Registry after googling this key here.
Here's the contents which is obviously for my video card.

    Ahhh RG, a false positive..

You are right for checking it out first...I would have done the same thing..

When I ran it, it came up clean but if it had found anything I would have done the same as you before removing anything it found.
