    Word 2002 (10.2627.2625)

When I double click on a word file in a folder, or on desktop, etc. (the actual file, not a shortcut), Word loads with a blank work area. I have to click on the file name again, in the Task Pane, to get it to load. A related problem occurs when I try to email Word files as attachments. I go ,<insert> <file> and point to the file, and I get a can't find file message. But, the file is exactly where I say it is, and I can load it from within Word from that same location. I just cannot double-click to load it, or send it to someone.

This has occured since I installed WOPR.

    Hi Jim:

I don't have WOPR <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> or 2002, but this sounds like a Folder Options problem. Go to the Start Menu | Folder Options...| File Types tab (or My Computer/View/FolderOptions/File Types). Then scroll to find Microsoft Word Document & click "Edit". Make sure that "Open" is the default action (bolded). Click it & choose "Edit" again. It should read like the attached graphic. Note that your path to winword.exe may differ somewhat.

If no one here has the answer, you might want to consult other WOPR users on <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/postlist.pl?Cat=&Board=wopr>the WOPR board</A> to see if this is a familiar issue.

    Hi, Phil

I checked and my settings are the same as yours. A little more experimentation revealed that the problem occured only with a specific file, no matter where I saved it (a folder, the desktop, under different file names, etc.) In all cases with that file, it would not load with a double click, be found with recent documents, or attach to an email. Yet, the file was fine if I loaded Word first and then loaded the file, wherever it was!

Very strange, but thanks for the tip.
