    Search Folders v. Rules

I wanted to set up rules so that I could combine all the mail for specific people -- to and from.

It worked on the "From" mail, but not on the To mail fine. But on the "To" mail, I don't see a way to move a rule to a specific folder. I can COPY it there, but not move it.

I don't want a plethora of duplicates. Isn't there a way to move messages that are sent and file them in a specific folder instead of the Set Items folder?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

    Try This:

In File | Options | Mail | Save Message uncheck the setting to save a copy in the Sent Items folder. Make sure that the rule to file in a specific folder has "Stop processing more rules". AFTER that rule have another rule for sent email that makes a copy in Sent Items.

I THINK I'm understanding what it will do... I'll give it a shot.

    Thanks,

Joe, I was getting ready to try this, and a question came up: To do this I would also need a rule to save a copy of "everything else" after any specific rules/folders I set, or else I won't have a copy of other sent mail, will I?

So then a "third" rule would say "File a copy of all sent [Except for...] in the Sent Items folder."

    Yes?

    Regards,
    Chuck

That is more or less what I said except that you have a rule already that copies email to a specific folder. That rule must have "Stop processing more rules" in it. Then add the rule sent email to the sent folder AFTER the previous rule.

Remember, rules are executed in sequence from the first listed to the last. "Stop processing..." kills the sequence for any one email.
