I'm using Outlook now as I don't like Windows Live Mail. Will I need to install the update so that Outlook still pulls in my mails from W.Live?

it depends on how Outlook accesses your mail.

I don't exactly know although it can only import from POP enabled accounts. How would I find out?

Look at accounts or account settings to find out if you are using the Outlook Connector or a Windows live account to access live mail. In any event, you don't have to install any updates to continue to pull mail from live mail.

The Softpedia link for the new update states:-

IMAP access must be set up to read Gmail messages in Mail:
You need to set up your Gmail account to allow IMAP access before you can read your Gmail messages using Mail. To enable IMAP in Gmail:
    · Sign in to your Gmail account.
    · Click Settings at the top right of the Gmail page.
    · Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
    · Select Enable IMAP, and then click Save Changes.

I use POP to get Gmail and don't want to change, so are there any compelling reasons to get the newer version of WLM?

I've tried the above link, but it does not offer a download for "Live Mail 2012", it offers a link for "Windows Essentials" which does not seem to give "live Mail 2012", or perhaps I'm not doing something correct....
