    wlmail.exe- No Disk

    W7 Home Premium 64.
I am using Windows Live Mail, as my old Outlook 2003 doesn't run as smoothly as it used to under XP.

Most things have been fine but out of the blue I started getting an error box come up with the title:

    wlmail.exe- No Disk

In the box is the message:

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive
    \Device\Harddisk7\DR7.

I then have the options to Cancel, Try Again, Continue.

I can't do anything in WLMail until I get rid of the box which I can only do by pressing Cancel, sometimes once, sometimes 3 or 4 times.

WLMail then carries on as though nothing was wrong, receiving and sending mail as normal, until the error box pops up again when I have to cancel out of it again.

This doesn't seem to be a biggie at the moment, but I wonder what is happening, why, and can I get rid of this?

    Many thanks.

Are you using the latest version of WLM: WLM 2012?

    WLM2012.jpg

I would try to uninstall WLM, then reinstall from Windows Live Essentials. Only install the portions of the suite you need.

    Many thanks, Super Mod!

No, my version is 2011 build 15.4.3555***

I shall set about upgrading it right now.

I shall do a search, but is it easy enough to keep contacts and emails?

Rushed into a reply there, Medico, so just typed what I thought was your name!
    Sorry about that.

No Problem. If nothing else, you can export all contacts and mail as a csv file, then uninstall. I believe after you uninstall, your contacts, mails, etc are still held. I just uninstalled my mom's WLM yesterday and it remembered all her contacts and mails. I would however try to export the stuff to your PC first just in case.

If you look in your My Documents I believe, if not just search for a folder: Windows Live Mail. I copied that folder to my desktop and renamed it by adding BU to the name. In this way you can back up all your WLM stuff, then copy it back after you reinstall WLM.

Right, Just as you thought, all my emails, folders and contacts migrated seamlessly into the new WLMail
No problems with uninstall of the 2011 version, or the install of the new 2012.
No sign of that error message yet either, I shall see how I get on.

I won't even ask why MS didn't build in an auto update/upgrade or even notification of the new version!

So many thanks, Medico, I appreciate your immediate and very useful help.

    Glad I could help.

For others, it's normally an easy fix to try the uninstall/reinstall route for WLM, and many other apps that seem to have developed weird problems. Quite often weird problems mean app corruption.
