    Want AVG TICK back

I used to have a AVG TICK when using Google but it seems to have gone.

It told you if a site was safe

I cannot seem to find away to replace it.

    Any ideas.

XP -Pro fully up to date

    Thanks Oldn

    Hey oldn,
First, let me clarify.... HTH abreviates Hope This Helps. I'm Doc Watson. Now, on to your issue.....

I don't know how you ended up with the AVG Toolbar and Google Chrome as your browser, unless they were add-ons to the AVG Security Shield download and you simply OK'd your way through the installation without reading each screen before clicking OK. This happens often because the SOB's that offer the "Free" stuff piggyback unwanted stuff onthe free installation. If you don't want them, go to to Control Panel, Add-Remove Programs and unistall the AVG Toolbar and Google Chrome and your browser will revert to what the default was previously. That should leave you with just the Security Shield you wanted.

    Hi Doc

I said I did not want the AVG tool bar, and un-ticked that, I think I did install it some time age by accident. I have now removed the tool bar and the home page AVG-Google but I have not got the AVG-TICK

Thanks for getting back to me Oldn

Did the link I posted not take you to the page I have attached a screenshot of ??

The Download link (Green Box) there opens a window to download (Run, Save, Cancel) an exe file that, when I hover my cursor over the link, says its the installer for the "AVG- Tick" you seem to be talking about. Perhaps, I'm confused.

    Hi Doc

    But no AVG-TICK

I have tried to reinstall, but if you take the tick from: -

    1) Install AVG tool bar set and maintain

    2) AVG secure as my default search provider

1 installs the tool bar and 2 puts AVG-Google as my home page?

    It just stops installing?

Thanks for getting back to me

The "feature" you are after may have been rolled into the AVG Toolbar. I don't use AVG so I can't say. You might want to give this review of AVG a look to see if it helps clear things up.

    Hi Doc

I have been searching the AVG Forum again which I have done before but I was putting in AVG TICK and not GREEN TICK and I got this, not that it makes any thing clearer.

AVG -- You can check if you have the needed add on installed this way:
Open IE - Tools - Manage Add-ons -- AVG Security Toolbar -- AVG Safe Search -- AVG Security Toolbar BHO

ME—But in Open IE - Tools - Manage Add-ons it says AVG safe search control name is not available, but it is enabled.

AVG --If they are not in add ons verify if in AVG User Interface is LinkScanner component.
    - If the component is missing, download latest installation file from web ( http://free.avg.com/cz-en/download )
    - Run installation file select Add or remove components and check LinkScanner.

These steps will also repair AVG Free installation.

ME – Which I did but it made no difference with or with out the tool bar

AVG -- However if you type directly for example www.google.com and doing search on the website not using toolbar, green ticks should be displayed.

ME – It is not there

AVG -- If you choose to use search field in our toolbar, search is provided by AVG Secure Search (powered by Google) so the links are already scanned and if there is no exclamation mark or red cross, they are safe.
If you choose to do searching on website, there should be green ticks, red crosses and yellow exclamation marks occurring if everything works as intended,

Doesn't seem everything "works as intended". But, it sounds like you have to install the AVG toolbar and uncheck the option (if one exists) to install Google Chrome. If you can't option out of Chrome, let it install and then change you default back to your preferred browser and uninstall Chrome. PITA, but I have no other advice..... other than to change to a different free AV program like Avast.
