    As most Windows 7 users know, patching the operating system can result in both minor and major system failures. Windows 8, due out Oct. 26, comes with new tools that should prevent or fix patching problems.

    I think the last line was meant to read "...-- or rather another reason to look beyond the new GUI." (not "the new OS"). Or perhaps not.

    And there are many more reasons to overlook the new GUI, not the least of them having to do with the new Refresh and Reset options, better backup options, and more efficient file transfer handling and more storage options.

    But the new updating process is certainly a major improvement, as the article says.
