Gmail through Outlook or Windows Live Mail failing: Web access ok

I've got three computers that I have been using to access my Gmail account, which is part of my free Google Apps account. Starting today, all three of them get the same message:

The server has rejected your login. Please verify that your username and password are correct.

The Gmail works ok through web access.

    I am using IMAP.

Seems like for all three computers to start failing on the same day, could be something in Gmail settings. These three computers are all in different places.
I've double checked the settings, everything is as it should be.

And I have another Gmail account on these 3 computers, also in Windows Live Mail and Outlook, and they work fine with the same settings.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I've seen similar behaviour before accessing different gmail accounts from the same device on the same IP. It triggers a catptcha (those squiggly letters and numbers that one is supposed to enter to confirm one's ID) request, which of course the mail client doesn't understand and can't handle so it generates the error.

The fix (if that's what is causing the issue) is easy. Review this Gmail support article and if necessary visit this unlock page.

    Hi Vincenzo,
I use WLM 2012 and have no difficulty accessing 3 gmail accounts or directly. I use POP3.

I tried unlocking the Captcha, did not help. But then I tried it again the next day, and it worked. One thing to note is that the unlocking page does not tell you whether you are logged in to a Gmail account at the time or not, which seems like quite an oversight, and may have been responsible for my first failure.
    Thanks

    Hi Vincenzo,
    I find using IMAP a P.I.T.A. for Gmail in WLM, here's how I do it.WLM Mail Tips.docx

    Thanks for the tips.

Because of the way we operate here, needs to be on IMAP.

What kind of problems have you encountered? If WLM is troublesome, we may consider Outlook. But I hear that is problematic with IMAP too.

    Hi Vincenzo,
I know their are other apps that require IMAP but I don't have any. Their is no reason not to allow IMAP & POP in your gmail settings. Believe me, WLM works great if gmail is accessed using POP.
