Office Assistant (Office 97 Pro, SR2b)

Using the Office Assistant, the white box with "Type Your Question here, then click Search" is missing, all else is there and working. Are there files missing for this, if so, anyone know what they are? This function was working upon installation some time ago.
I have same version running on another computer, can copy files if they are identified.
If you say run setup again, I have a question (remember, this is Office 97 Pro): if you just want to ADD a feature during setup, do you just select it and move on? I ask this because I was once told that you must select ALL the features, ones' already installed and the additonal one needed, else those features left unchecked will be deleted. Is this so? Gosh, I sure hope not!
I also know MANY users do NOT want the Office Assistant! However, my daughter would like it working since she DOES use it with some regularity. I praise her for pursuing answers to her questions.
Thank you one and all for any assistance you can provide. I scoured the Microsoft Knowledge base before I came here and found no answers or hints for this particular trouble.

    Hi Chris:

At the top left of Help dialog box is a show/hide button. This will display or hide the left panel.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Phil ... this did not help. Office Assistant does indeed come active, just the dialog box {within it} where you ask your question, is missing. I believe a HELP file of sorts is missing or corrupted. Do not know enough about these files to chase them down myself.

    Hi Chris:

On re-reading your question, I may have overlooked something. I was thinking of the help dialog box that F1 brings up when you don't use Office Assistant. You're talking about the paperclip guy. You might try changing the options to not use the assistant & see what kind of dialog box comes up. I haven't come across this before. Does this happen with other Office applications? You might try posting this in the General Office board.

By the way, although I haven't done it for some time, my recollection is that you can install & remove features without a complete uninstall. Just go through the control panel/Add-Remove Programs & it will walk you through it.

    Phil,
Thanks for the feedback. I checked the other Office programs: Clipitty does NOT work in WORD, Access and Binder, works fine in Excel and Publisher.
Someday I will try a re-installation of this feature and all HELP files and see if this celars the trouble. I will then let you know of the results.
Thank you again for taking the time on this one.
