.xlsx file not opening in Outlook

    Hello,

I have a person that is running MS Office 2010.
He can't open files that are in the .xlsx format that come attached to emails.
Everyone else uses the same version or older.
Any ideas of how i can correct this issue?

    Thank you very much,

You need to do some more research.

    1. Can he save the file from the email?
    2. Can he open the saved file by double clicking it?
    3. Can he open the saved file by opening excel, and using File>Open?
    4. in File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>File Block Settings what has ticks against it?
    (Note: ticked items are blocked!)

There are other things that can be checked but those are the first ones.

    Hi Dave,

I have tried everything except the Trust Option way.
I tried it and the workbooks and that were checked.
In the email you can click the .xlsx attachment once and it will show up in the email. It will not however open in another window or if you save it to desktop it will not open.
Will probably uninstall and reinstall Outlook 2010.

    Thanks,

If you can't open the attachment in outlook or in Excel, then the attachment is probably corrupted.

If all Excel attachments are that way, then the problem could be either with Excel or with Outlook, or both.

I would look closely at your security settings in Excel. You may have "Never show information about blocked content" or "Disable all controls without notification" selected.

Also check through the Outlook settings. I don't have access to the latest version, but old versions had the option of blocking "potentially dangerous files", like the spreadsheets we like to e-mail to each other for business reasons...

Sorry - been a bit busy.

If the workbooks are checked that will Prevent you opening them. Try unchecking everything and see how you go.
