windows 8 full install from upgrade windows 8

In the past you could do a complete install from windows from a upgrade product. Does this still exist in windows 8 versions?

Follow Bruce's link for a much longer discussion of this.

    There are 2 installation routes:

Upgrade Install - This will leave your present OS in place and upgrade the Windows files, hopefully without messing up the apps and settings, etc. This is very dependent on your present OS. I have read of far more horror stories from this Upgrade Installation.

Custom (Clean) Install - This will replace the existing OS with Win 8. This must be done from a DVD to choose the location of the new Installation. This creates a folder called windows.old on your root directory that holds the old OS.

Personally, I always perform the custom installation. It is a little more time consuming, but if there are any problems in the original OS this prevents them from being carried forward to the new OS.
