    Startup (Office XP-WinXP)

I am attempting to create and pin a link in startup to open contacts rather than the inbox. I can do so by creating a shortcut on the desktop and then placing it in the Start Menu. If I then delete the shortcut on the desktop the Start menu does not work. It appears to be linking to the shortcut rather than copying it.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA

I don't have OLXP, but in earlier versions you can set the folder Outlook starts in. Check out Tools | Options | Other Tab | Advanced Options button.

The behavior you describe does sound as if you are making a shortcut to a shortcut.

it's the windows xp way <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> in this situtation, make a shortcut and store it on the start menu or somewhere other than the desktop.

for the outlook part of the question, you don't need a special shortcut, unless you don't always want it to open to contacts.
