Gadgets for Windows 8 (if you REALLY need them)

For those who really can't do without desktop gadgets, Winstep provides fully functional gadgets for Win 7 an 8 (I can, of course, not offer any comment about their effects on your security). The gadgets are (almost!) infinitely customisable.

Winstep Nexus (Free) is available here: http://www.winstep.net/nexus.asp

If you purchase the "ultimate" version, then the gadgets are even more customisable.

Note also that the "Gadget Pack" for Windows 8 has been updated and now works in the retail version of Windows 8 and offers "all your old favourite gadgets" (if you need them!)) The security risks touted for such programs still apply, of course.

It seems as if Microsoft have "killed" gadgets once again. I used the Windows 8 Gadget Pack (see post #2 above) so that I could use the network meter to see how well/if downloads were "entering" my PC. As of today, the gadget pack and the gadget are "dead". I uninstalled and re-installed...still nothing. Ahhh well, I can always use the minimised "Performance" tab in widows 8 Task Manager as "second best".

Yahoo Widgets are working ok, crashed once in several days of use (knock on wood). All I need though is the weather and a clock.

    Fun,

There should be a clock in the notification area on the task bar and if you hang a thermometer and barometer outside a window on the north side of your house you should be all set.
