    Startup

Daughter's computer (WinME), when powering on, takes a long time to get to desktop. Must be loading all the programs. My question:
The line above Programs (Start>Run>Help, etc) shows the large icon for WinUpdate plus these other 'sections:
Utilities...MicroStuff...Kathy'sStuff...HPStuff... Fun...Educational - are all of these software programs loaded on Startup? Should they be placed in the Programs section with their own 'sections' as they are now or what?
In Programs>Startup - only software program showing is 'BigFix'. I am not worrying about what is in msconfig (mouse,NAV,etc)...that's ok, but wondering about all these other things.
    C+A+D shows this:
    Woody's Office Portal/Explorer/Weatherbug/POW/CookieWall/BigFix/Em_exe/Navapw32/Systray/Msgloop/Msg32

    Am I meaking any sense?
Someone help me to straighten this out?
    TIA

    Re: Startup

Lonnie the items in the start menu above programs are not loading at startup, they are just there as a quicker way of loading them than going through the various groupings in the start menu. Navapw32 is Norton Anti Virus which does a scan at startup which will delay things slightly. I can't tell you what some of these other items are and whether they will slow down startup - Weatherbug, Cookiewall, POW, Bigfix. Someone else may know more about these.

    Re: Startup

    Lonnie,
As stated before in other threads and at other forums, ALL of these "Weatherbug, Cookiewall, POW, Bigfix" and more will slow down a system and eat up resources once the system starts. Each MUST start ,check out your system and some even must go online to check to see if any updates are needed. If you have the browser to "autoconnect" you will not see the connection, but must wait for it to complete before the system will startup completely.
If you feel you MUST keep running these toys, you are going to have to put up with a slow machine.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
