Managing Identities

I have what will undoubtedly prove to be a dumb question, but bear with me.

I'm running Windows ME, Outlook Express 5.50, on a cable modem connection. I have two identities set up on the server, but must switch between the two from the Outlook Express main menu (File/Switch Identity), which is a bit cumbersome.

Is there anyway to launch two Outlook Express applications, and set each one to one of the identities? At present, nothing happens if I hit the PE button when it has already been launched. I wonder if there is an analogy with, for example, opening more than one Internet Explorer window?

Thanks in advance for helping the Luddite out.

Re: Managing Identities

What do you mean 2 id's on server. Do you mean 2 email accounts?
If so, why not add the second account to the default OE id?

I set up Identities in OE once to manage 5 people in same household. It got way to complicated; either everyone started with the default acct and had to change, or someone would set their acct as default and confuse others.

Win9x - 2K automatically makes profiled users mail accounts separate.

Conclusion: IMHO The Identity feature in OE is total fluff and does nothing you can't do easier without it.
(except, maybe for the password feature?)

Re: Managing Identities

sorry, you can't have two OEs running at once.

does the mail need kept totally separate? if not, you can have two or more accounts in an identity (i have 5). it all goes into one inbox and OEs rules could sort it by account if i wanted. OE also handles sending on any account very well.

Thank you, that answers it - I can't have two OEs running at once.

The info is appreciated, Cheers.

Re: Managing Identities

Mind if I add a quick question. I recently changed from Outlook Express (3 identities within my house) to Outlook 2000. Different "Identities" don't seem to be available there - or am I missing something? I'd rather not have to create separate profiles as that means you have to log out of Windows itself doesn't it?

no identies in outlook. sounds like you are using internet mail mode, so yes you need to log out of windows. with corp mode you can create different profiles.

Re: Managing Identities

I'm using Outlook 2000 at home to keep it similar to what we use at the office. Any idea whether I can I change from "internet mail mode" to corp mode at home in order to set up profiles?
