    Phone call from WINDOWS saying they had discovered I had a computer problem

    They would of course correct the problem for me for a price but I hung up on them.

    That was obviously a scam, so you did the right thing.

    They not only would have gotten your money, but also your credit card number; and they would have, for all practical purposes, taken ownership of your computer and all of the info that is on it.

    Regular calls received Australia. They are being investigated in the USA and Australia by the authorities.
    I still get them and now say - "this must be one of those scams I've heard about. Why ring mje? I don't even own a computer."

    Alternatively, I'll ask them to hang on then, put the phone down and get on with something else until they go away.
