    Changing Computer name

I am in the process of moving to a new PC and would like to use the same name for the computer as my current PC. Is there a way I can change the name on my current machine so that for the period when it still co-exists with the new machine they can be networked?

    Ken,

    1. Click on Start.
    2. Right-Click on Computer.
    3. Click Properties.
    4. You'll find the button there.

Then your computer was never set up correctly in the first place.
You should have "My Computer" on your desktop, if it was.

So there is always one more way to skin the cat......
Hold down your 'Windows' key while you tap the E key. That opens Windows Explorer and you can access 'My Computer' from there. Again, right click on My Computer and then click on "Computer Name" in the menu.

A case of mistaken identity. Many years ago I objected to the rather childish 'My Computer' and changed it to 'System' which I thought better described it. Anyway, clicking on Start does not take me to the desktop but the problem is now solved - except that I find that the computer had a name which I never even knew existed!

    Thanks

Try Windows key + Pause/Break to get to the Control Panel System Applet that allows you to change the Computer name.
