    Excel Page breaks (Excel 97 (SR-2)+ 2K 9.0.4402 (SR-1))

<img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15> <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23> On one machine Win '98 + Excel 97 SR-2 this file displays a page break beside every column and when you do a Print Preview, it shows 46+ pages to be printed. When I take this file to the other machine Excel 2K 9.0.4402 SR-1, these page breaks do not show, in fact it shows only 3 pages to be printed. On the XL 97 machine, there is nothing that seems to "get rid of" these single column page breaks. In fact, I manually inserted a page break and then removed it and nothing happened to the other page breaks. We have done a virus scan on both machines - nothing. The file originated from someone else who e-mailed it to my wife at work. She says that it seems to work okay at work (NT with Office 97 ?) . You can copy columns of this work sheet to a new worksheet in the the same workbook and the page breaks do not seem to follow. We are really confused by this one. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> Any thoughts or insight that anyone might have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Ron

    Call the person who sent you the workbook and <img src=/S/scream.gif border=0 alt=scream width=15 height=15> at him/her.

Did you check the Page Setup dialog for the setings?
    1) Check the Paper size
    2) On the Page tab check the printer options, well you can do that from any tab, but just make sure you check it also.

From the View menu choose Page Breaks Preview and try and move the page breaks to where you want them to be.

Also check to see if the worksheet has any code, this should run in all versions mentioned, but heck check it any way.

Its possible that the worksheet got corrupted so I guess its time to rebuild the workbook.

We found out that this workbook came from a third party (National HQ). We think it is possible that it may have been produced as a "print to file" from that database and that it puts some special character after each record (in Excel's case this would translate into a cell) that Excel is interpreting as a page break. Still do not understand why it only gives this problem on one machine. I think I will close this one for now unless someone has a similar experience. Thanks.
