missing driver for USB 3.0 card

On this Windows 7 Home Premium machine, I am missing the driver/software for the PCI card I installed to handle USB 3.0. I have the hard drive and special cable but when I reinstalled Windows I missed saving that driver. Window can't see the card so can't search for a driver. I checked the card and there is no name or mfg listed. I have the software for the Seagate Free Agent drive but the adapter card was purchased separatly. Any suggestion on finding a generic driver is appreciated.

Lack of native USB 3 support in Win 7 is a pita - I wonder if that is fixed in 8. Had hoped it would be addressed in SP1, but now it looks like due to premature release of 8 there never will be a SP1 for 7.

Meanwhile, you might try Unknown Device Identifier to see if it can ID the chipset on your card:

Upgrading drivers for those cards is often difficult to find. Some suggestions are to look at the chip on the card and try to identify it. Once you have the type of chip, then google for drivers for that chip.
On my card the chips are very small and very hard to read the ID. I needed a magnifying glass and flashlight.
Some common chip types are NEC720XX or VL8XX.
    Its worth a try.
    good luck,

Uh - there's already an SP1 for Windows 7 - but there may not be an SP2. though.

Thank you for the suggestion. I ran the Unknown Device Identifier and the screen capture is attached. I Googled each line and don't see a description of my hardware or a driver.

    Hi Zig

Oops, bit of a brain fart there - meant SP2. Thanks.

That NEC/RENESAS micro PD720200 USB 3.0 controller was one of the first, and has had several firmware upgrades. Googling gives several hits for driver sources (none from NEC), though several from manufacturers such as Dell and HP. I guess it will be necessary to go thru those and try to find one that's compatible.

New cards are now under $25, so if all else fails ...

NEC is Renesas. Searching for Renesas USB3.0 drivers gets lots of urls.
The one that will lead you to drivers is: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=130099
There are many places you can look at that site.
    Take your time
    good luck
