    Restrict Menu

    We would like to replace the Restrict Editing button on the Review tab in Word 2010. Using XML code, I have added menu control FileRestrictPermissionMenu. This does not raise an error in the XML code, but nothing appears on the Ribbon when Word launches.

    This control is what appears in Backstage View. Is it simply not available for other locations?

    Thanks.

    Have you tried something like this?
    Code:
    <customUI xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2009/07/customui">
    	<ribbon>
    		<tabs>
    			<tab idMso="TabReviewWord">
    				<group idMso="GroupProtect" visible="false" />
    				<group id="MyGroupProtect" label="Uphold and Protect" >
    					<menu idMso="ReviewProtectDocumentMenu" size="large" />
    					<button id="customButton" label="Custom Button" imageMso="HappyFace" size="large" onAction="MyMacro" />
    				</group>
    			</tab>
    		</tabs>
    	</ribbon>
    </customUI>
    I was under the impression that you need to replace the entire group if you want to alter one of the buttons.

    Thanks, Andrew. I did replace the group, but the control would not display. I had the idea to try this in Office 2013, and the control displayed. In fact, it's not the menu I was after. The name seemed right, but what I wanted was FilePrepareMenu, a misleading name for a button that's called "Protect Document."

    Backstage view isn't included in the Customize Ribbon feature, so it's a bit of a guessing game.
