    Lining up decimal points

    Excel 2003

I am trying to align decimal points in a column of mixed positive and negative financial figures.

The cells currently have the Custom Format #,##0.00;[Red](#,##0.00) and, as expected, the right-hand parenthesis offsets the negative numbers.

I thought that the format to correct this would have been #,##0.00;[Red](#,##0.00_), but all that does is to omit the right-hand parenthesis and it leaves the misaligned decimal points.

What should I be using ?

    How about:
    #,##0.00_);[Red](#,##0.00)

The "_)" leaves the spacing on the right to account for the ")" in the negatives.
