Administrator rights Windows Server 2008 R2

Hi I'm trying to figure out what i'm doing wrong.
I'm a entry level IT and new to server and networks.
How do I make my computer give me unlimited access, administrator rights?
I've changed my account on my pc on my network, it shows i'm an admin yet when anything even trivial needs to be done like updating Adobe it says I don't have the right to do so??
    Any ideas,
    Thank you,

Even though you are a member of the administrative group that does not give you complete unfettered access to the PC. When you need to do something such as install software right click on and exe file and select "Run as administrator".

Joe is right is you have UAC turned on, but Windows should pop up the UAC box automatically if you try to install / update something.

You cannot normally change your account to have admin privileges, you must first logon as an admin, then change another account to have admin rights. It could be that you are an admin on your PC but not the server.

    cheers, Paul
