    External drive vulnerability

    External drive vulnerability
I have several external hard drives I use for back up storage. Is it possible for malware, virus, key logger etc., to reside only on an external drive? If so, can they be activated by the windows System files on the C drive. I do scan my external drives for antivirus and antimalware periodically but was wondering if malicious script can hide only on an external drive. Thank you. Paul B.

Yes, this should operate along the same principles as transferring infections from one computer to another other via portable drives
such as floppies, USB sticks, and external hard drives.

But it is very rare to have exclusivity to a single external drive and not have the OS in general effected by any particular infection.

Invest a little time and energy in a well thought out BACKUP regimen and you will have minimal down time, and headache.
