    Paste picture-image into Word 2010

I'm using Windows 7 Pro & MS Office 2010 and am attempting to paste pictures into a Word document. Specifically, I have copied a jpg picture I received as an attachment via Outlook, have opened and saved it. It is not "blocked." I have opened it in Microsoft Office 2010, Windows Photo Viewer, Paint, and SnagIt Editor--then copied it (R click copy or ctrl C) and it shows in Clipboard (same with any other picture I have on my HD). However it will NOT paste in a Word 2010 document. When I try to paste in Word all I get is an empty blank box. I have attempted all Word settings I can find (including a Text Box) and can't get the picture to paste (ClipArt will insert an image). I'm convinced that there is a setting or Add-In restriction I have missed, but a lot of work and effort have produced nothing but a blank box. An interesting factor is when I open my WordPerfect, the picture will paste there immediately (ctrl v). Will appreciate advice.

Have you tried using Insert > Picture instead of paste? That method should work OK.

    Paste picture-image into Word 2010

By suggesting using "Insert > Picture" I assume you intend the following: (1) I have a blank Document1 open in Word, (2) I click on the "Insert" tab at the top, (3) I click on "Picture" in the ribbon which takes me to the "Insert Picture" window showing Windows Explorer & my list of folders, (4) I find the pic file & click on it which places the file name in the window at the bottom, (5) I click on the "Insert" button which places an empty box in Document1 where the picture should show. I can size this box and do everything I should be able to do with the picture, e.g., right click on it and select from the drop down menu, etc. But nothing happens--the white empty box remains. Word simply won't open the picture on the page as WordPerfect does. Sorry to be so wordy, but I'm trying to fill in all gaps that I obviously have overlooked (no pun intended). I said before that Clip Art does insert a pic, but now I see that it also just places an empty box in Document1. Thanks.

Try copying the picture using Snipping Tool. Then paste from there.

Sorry to be a pest but the Snipping Tool doesn't work either. Word behaves like there is a hidden setting I've missed somewhere or Word is corrupted. I've tried everything I can find in order to place a picture/image in Document1 (or any Word document) and nothing works except to place a blank box in the document. Even tried a capture from SnagIt with no luck. Extremely puzzling because when doing email via Outlook with Word as the editor, pictures/images/ClipArt paste easily as they should. I appreciate your help, but I'll not clutter this thread anymore unless someone can nail this problem. Thanks, and best regards.

    Paste picture-image into Word 2010

BruceR -- You are a genius! ! ! I followed your suggestion to "Uncheck Show picture placeholders," that fixed everything. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This can be a big problem in Word and your solution should be widely publicized. Best regards.

When I have a photo or other graphic on the clipboard that will not show up in my Word 2010 document, I use this cumbersome work around I discovered for this problem. I go to >Insert>Object. I will get a dialog, and I chose "Bitmap" which will open a Paint window with a blank object. When I hit the paste button in the upper left, the item becomes a bitmap. Then in the ribbon to the left of the "home" tab is a tab in blue, presumably the "file" tab, and under there you'll find the "Update document" command. You may get a dialog that says you can't do what you are doing, and sometimes I have to paste the graphic into a different location and delete the original place holder, but I still manage to get the graphic in there. Good luck!

RANT: for all the effort this corporation put into creating this whole "ribbon" concert, they really did a poor job designing this interface. It was meant to be more intuitive, but all they did was hide functionality that I used on a regular basis. I miss the original interface. ...Just sayin'!

I'm sorry if I don't understand the problem but here is what I do on a regular basis to copy an image/picture from some source into Word 2010. This is cumbersome but it works for me. I do a Ctrl > c on the original image OR a right click > Copy on the image then paste it into a blank Word Perfect document which almost always accepts it. Then do the reverse (copy from Word Perfect) and past the image into a Word doc which then will recognize the image and show it in Word. I don't know why this works but when Word won't accept an image, WP usually will, then Word will accept the image from Word Perfect. So much for the strange behaviors of Word.

You probably need "Ubit" -> http://www.ubit.ch/software/ubitmenu-languages/
