    Backgroung activity icon stays on

I'm running Windows 8 Pro with 8G memory. I had no problems installing. Few problems getting around inside the OS, with just a few periods of looking up instructions, especially on how to shut it down or restart. Finally got that one in mind. This is my third day with W8. This morning when I finished booting up I noticed that the background icon continues to run. When I put it on something to drag and copy, it will change to the regular pointer. However, it is an irritation otherwise. The way I have stopped it is to change that position into one that doesn't have an action. I made another pointer out of it. However, I'd like to know why it is doing that and make it stop. Anyone have any ideas?

Open Task Manager and click on the Processes tab to see what is actively using resources. Indexing comes to mind, but it may well be something else.
Create a fresh drive image before making system changes, in case you need to start over!

The first time indexing takes quite a while if that's what it is.

Thanks for the advise. It must have been indexing since it no longer does it.
