    Problem:
Peoples computers, worldwide, have been wiped out by MS updates!
I've had to repair several of them myself.

It's been said by some that MS is purposely putting out bad updates, to force people off of Windows XP, which they (MS) no longer want to support.

    Solution:
Turn off Automatic Updates and worry about it NO MORE.
Experience is truly the best teacher.

    Backup! Backup! Backup! GHOST Rocks!

Sounds good to me, however I would guess every now and again ms might send out a good update that really might be GOOD. As far as I know every update ms has sent me has downloaded fine and this is the only one that did not work. I guess its just the idea that I could'nt get the D--- thing to work. By the way when I did get through to ms and talked to a real body, they did advise for the mere sum of $99.00 they would resolve this problem!

Go to Secunia and run their online scan, and you'll find out if you really need that for your particular installation.

I respectfully disagree. I believe a Windows Update that won't install almost always is an indication that something is wrong with the system, most likely a malware infection or a corrupted OS file. Whenever I get a PC that won't install a Windows update, I always troubleshoot it to find out why. Also, Microsoft offers free support for Windows Update issues.

I'd do regular backups and leave automatic updates on. You can always restore the latest backup if your PC gets hosed by an update.

Before I install any updates I make an image and keep the image for a week or two after the updates are installed...
If all is working normally I don't delete the image until the next updates are offered and then make another image before I install them..
