Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro

I just purchased a new laptop with Windows 8. I have a Windows 8 Pro disk that I purchased for my previous laptop and would like to upgrade the 8 installation to 8 Pro. I've already tried to install Pro over the existing installation but ended up with no change despite the hour or so it took. I noticed that I was never asked for the Pro product key. Is there a way to make the upgrade?

Go to "System", located at the extreme bottom left of the screen, or press the win+x key on your keyboard.
What you want to do is select is "Get more features with a new edition of Windows". There you will be given
the opportunity to enter the new product key, and hopefully, unlock the feature sets it has.
