jumping from footer to main body (Win98, Word 97-2SR)

Does anyone know why, when I am in a footer and double click on the main document to get out of the footer, my page jumps a few pages backwards? It's very annoying, to say the least, when you lose your place and have to go searching to get back to where you were. Any help at all? I'm working in a manual with 150 pages.

Hi Marion:

It should take you back to where your cursor was in the main document. However, if you use the scroll bars to scroll or if you, say, arrow up or down through headers or footers before going back to the main document, it will appear to jump...but only to where your cursor remained in the main document.

Are you saying it does this randomly?

Hello again, Phil
You helped me before with page numbering in sections a while ago. Finally got that all straightened out.
Yes, when I use my scroll bar then open and close a footer I jump back to where my cursor was. I guess that was because I opened the footer on a different page without moving my cursor first. Thanks.

Is there a way to page down at the bottom of the scroll bar and stay at the bottom of the page? Every time I click on the page down it takes me to the top of the page. I wanted to click page down and view each footer because I have to check each for different dates. Is there a way to do this? Thanks for any help.

Hi Marion:

Not to my knowledge. It's a pain, I know. What I usually do is Ctrl+Page down just past the page & then arrow up once. Then you can see the footer of the previous page (in Page Layout view).

Maybe someone can offer a VBA solution that you could assign to a shortcut key.

Glad you got the page numbering problem worked out.
