    Slow file loading in Explorer

If I click on a folder in Explorer that contains many files (my downloads folder, for example, has 1400 folders and nearly a 1000 files) it takes for ever to fully display, and everything is frozen while it does. Has anyone experienced this and I would welcome any advice on improving it. I'm running W7SP1 and dual booting with XPPro, which loads these files with no problem.

    Sorry about the delay Zig.

I don't index my drives, I don't search very often and decided it would be better not to.
The folder I have the most trouble with is on a seperate partition (H), as I said it's a collection of downloads.
I think that if XP can access the folder OK, then so should W7.

1400 folders is a tall order for Win7 because its doing some additional sort fields that XP doesn't bother with I think.

What I've had some success with in speeding that up is to go into the properties of the master folder and under customize tab, if its set to anything other than documents, I set it to documents and check the apply to all sub folders box and apply. 1400 might still take a bit but hopefully it would speed it up.

Tried that, F.U.N. speeded things up quite a bit. Can't really understand why though.

    Anyway, thanks for the help.
