    Windows Update losing update history

Windows Update has suddenly lost all my update history after nearly a year of working perfectly. Update history no longer has any entries and the most annoying result is that I keep on getting offered the same hidden updates [mainly optional - such as Bing Desktop] every day. If I check the installed updates section, all the updates I have installed are in that list - it's just the update history page that is blank. Any ideas?

    Akinbiyi,

??Could you have cleaned your computer of "junk" files using CCleaner, Advanced System Care, Glary Utilities, etc. recently???

I have been using System Mechanic for several months and I allow it to fix registry problems. I have googled "system mechanic" and "windows update" and there do appear to have been some issues, although not specifically the one I have experienced. Do you have a fix, other than to say "don't use System Mechanic"?

The windowsupdate.log is located in the windows folder. This log only seems to show the latest updates. Check to see if your latest updates are present.

Delete the log, reboot the computer, and then have WU deliberately rescan the system.
If none of the above works, try a sfc /scannow

Invest a little time and energy in a well thought out BACKUP regimen and you will have minimal down time, and headache.

The Windows Update history in my Vista PC was lost several weeks ago, when I installed EMET (Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit) to protect Internet Explorer 8 after Microsoft recommended use of that tool pending the release of an IE security patch.

I can still view my installed updates, but there's no way to recover that history, is there?
