    Symantec

I have used Symantec or actually Peter Norton, which became Symantec. I just purchased the 2002
system works, I have had nothing but trouble trying to install. Does anyone out there have any info
on the System Works 2002 or the Internet Security 2002. I was really upset with Symantec. You do not
even get support on the new product without paying extra for it .... ugh

Did you completely uninsall ALL of the previous Version be for installing 2002?

If NOT, run the unistaller get what you have of 2002 out. Then goto the control panel and run the uninstaller for every entry for Nortons, System works, Liveupdate and etc, in the "remove softeware" list. Then after you have done this, delete ALL of the Symantec and/or SystemWorks folders. Reboot your machine a couple of times. I normally do a "SHUT DOWN", NOT a restart.
Now try and install 2002 SystemWorks. I do NOT use the Security package, so I know nothing about it.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

If, after doing the things that DaveA suggests, you still have installation problems, I have had good luck with two additional methods:

    1. Close all running processes that you can reach through the Ctrl-Alt-Del window except Explorer and SysTray, then try installing the problem program.

    2. LAST RESORT--If you have enough space on a hard drive, copy the installation CD to the hard drive, boot in Safe Mode and install from there.

Call Symantec, they have a no questions asked return policy.

If you give the reason for your return, they might try to Help you. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

    Re: Symantec

I've gone a little further and did a search in Regedit for all references to Symantec and Systemworks and dumped them all, then reinstalled w/o problems.

    Re: Symantec

RegCleaner (via Google search?) did a good job in removing old Symantec stuff on a friend's PC when the new version wouldn't install. Much the same result as Bob the Viking, but maybe a bit quicker?

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Hi Bob, I only got around to installing my System Works 2002 late last month, it installed perfectly and is working really well. So far I love the many tools, cleaners, disc doctor and other utilities that come with it. I am sure you will like it now you have it installed.
