Windows 8 Digital Backup won't work

Windows 8 backup recognizes my external hard drive (which is much larger than my backup) but won't run the digital image backup. It says that there isn't enough space available?

There have been quite a few reports of problems with external disc drives caused by the Quick Start facility in Windows 8. Purely as an experiment it might be worth disabling it and see if that helps.

Why use a built in backup feature that really is very basic when so many excellent Imaging apps are available that will do the chore much better, some for free. I tried the Win 7 Backup and Restore app and switched to Acronis True Image.

Win 8 has some other features associated with backup, but I still feel the 3rd party apps are superior.
