    Unhappy Trouble reading Window icons

    Hi
I am having a problem reading some window icons. I can see the icon and letters but can 't make them out because of the contrast between
the letters and background. I can see my menu items but not the icons for expanding or collapsing a window nor the shortcuts in the taskbar.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you attempted to rebuild the icon cache?

Invest a little time and energy in a well thought out BACKUP regimen and you will have minimal down time, and headache.

That is most likely a similar batch file to this

    Code:
    @echo off
    cls
echo The Explorer process must be killed to delete the Icon DB.
echo Please SAVE ALL OPEN WORK before continuing
    pause
    taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
echo Attempting to delete Icon DB...
    If exist %userprofile%\AppData\Local\IconCache.db goto delID
echo Previous Icon DB not found...trying to build a new one
    goto :main
    :delID
    cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
    del IconCache.db /a
    pause
echo Icon DB has been successfully deleted
    goto main
    :main
echo Windows 7 must be restarted to rebuild the Icon DB.
    echo Restart now? (Y/N):
    set /p choice=
    If %choice% == y goto end
echo Restart aborted...please close this window
    explorer.exe
    :end
    shutdown /r /t 0
    exit
Copy this into Notepad and Save As a .bat file on your desktop. Now just click the file.
    BACKUP...BACKUP...BACKUP

Have you checked the accessibility settings?

Have you installed a high contrast theme?

    Hi Joe

I checked the theme but it only applies to the desktop. My problem is the shortcuts on the task bar. You can see there are characters but they are unreadable.
The icon pictures are all the same, like a default picture. Can't see the window control icons in the upper right hand corner either.

    Hi again Joe

Thank you so much Joe. You are the best. I drilled down in the accessibility settings to high contrast and was able to select a theme that corrected my problem.
I spent 2 days on this problem and was about ready to reload the operating system.

In addition to Themes, System Fonts may also be changed. I did this (though I don't remember how exactly) in Win XP and Win 7 for better readability of icon labels.
