    word counts in pdfs

My question relates to large pdfs: does anyone have a handy way to count the words - either in a para and/or the whole pdf?

I use PDF Xchange v2.5, which is free and very good. With its text tool, I can copy and paste into a document and then use word count in the usual way. But, when pdfs have lots of images, it takes time to deal with only the text.

Obviously, it would be much quicker to do the count within the pdf.

Perhaps there is another free reader (not Adobe!) that offers this facility. Or has a facility to export text in one go (minus images) from pdf to document?
I am running Win7 Home Premium and Open Office.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks, in advance.

This free program appears to work (depending on Document Restrictions within PDF Properties, Security): Translator's Abacus
