    copy creates a blank sheet

Hi all. Hoping you can help. Have a workbook with several sheets (fill in the information requested) that must be completed. Many completing the workbook require additional sheets so they have been told to copy the sheet to have as many "blanks" as they require. eg. original sheet is named physical literacy. Individual right clicks tab, selects copy and move (make a copy) and "place" the sheet before the original ending up with physical literacy(2). However when someone attempts to make an additional copy following the same steps, they end up with a blank sheet.

I know about enough to be dangerous, but this has me stumped. Any ideas.

    Thanks

further information... in trying to save an additional "copy" of the original worksheet, I received the following error... cannot rename a sheet to the same name as another sheet, a referenced object library or a workbook referenced by Visual Basic.

I don't believe I added any code.... but could somebody and how would I find what it is?

    Thanks again,

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

sorry computer problems and currently can't zip the file.... however, as further information. Changed the name of the sheet that wouldn't copy from developing physical literacy to physical literacy and now no problems... as soon s I can get on my desktop at home I will post the spreadsheet... I'd still like to figure out what was going on.

    Thanks

Can you post the workbook so others can take a look at it?

    as requested - file

    Hi all,

sorry for the delay... the usual computer problems, but seems to be fixed now.

Attached is the original file. Please note that changing the name "Developing Physical Literacy" to "Physical Literacy" allows for multiple copies to be made. Would still like to figure out what is going on with the original.

    Thanks again.

Hmmm - in Excel 2003, for me the copying process works just as you want it to - I made numerous additional Worksheets.

It works regardless of whether I make copies of the original Worksheet, or of the new copies.

What version of Excel are you using ?

developed in 2010 and saved as 97-2003

It only happens on the developing physical literacy "tab"... all others work fine.

I think the problem is that the name is too long. If you make the sheet names on other sheets longer, the same problem occurs. At some point you get get a truncated name with a truncated count designation: from "Developing Physical Literacy" to "Developing Physical Literac (2". It seems to be somewhat of a bug when it must truncate the name since it does not include the end parenthesis, so when it tries to truncate and do it again, it takes out the last 3 digits and puts in " (2" again, and since this would be a duplicate name, it just creates a blank sheet...

To correct the problem, use a shorter name (it is being truncated anyway) and then you will get the (2), (3), etc as normal...

For what its worth, the bug seems to arise in the "save as 97-2003" process, but anyway Steve's workaround appears the only workaround in the resulting Workbook.

Thanks all.... I think Steve hit the nail on the head, because when I had changed the name (to a shorter version) it worked, so I'm thinking that must be it. Thanks again to all that took the time to take a look. Much appreciated.
