    Vista startup after update

I ran a normal system update of about 6 items and it now locks at the login screen. I did a restore back as far as I could but same thing. Even safe mode is locked. The mouse does work with the restore mode though. What would cause this issue from an update and how can I fix it?

Have you tried to boot to the installation disk and choose Repair My PC?

If so perhaps opening a Command Prompt and running sfc /scannow would help.

Thanks for your response. Since it is Vista (not a good OS) I even brought it to a shop and they couldn't get past the lock up at the log in. Ended up reformating and putting Windows 7 on it. Much better. I've had Vista on that PC for many many years. Time for a reformat anyway.
