    Opening a disk

When I open a disk the files that are stored there don't appear right away. What happens is there is a progress bar at the top that moves from left to right and after about 15 seconds the files appear. IT happens on a USB 3 disk as well as a USB 2 disk which surprises me because I thought the USB 3 would open quicker. A problem if I am in a hurry to access a file. Any thoughts? TIA

This is Windows reading your disk before showing the files. It may be your USB hardware being a bit slow or your AV scanning the disk first. I wouldn't be worried about it unless it only happens on one disk, then I'd check for disk problems.

    cheers, Paul

Right click on the drive, select properties and then the customize tab. Make sure its set to general items and check the "Apply this to all subfolders" box.
