Mail merge and restarting page numbering (Word 2007)

    Hi everyone,

My company is using mail merge to report Excel data. Each report will have 2 or 3 pages, and my boss likes "Page x of y" numbering (even though these won't be printed; you just can't change some people). When we merge these the total number of pages turns into the total number in the final merge--80+ pages in this case. We want it to display the total number of pages in each report.

Of course the total number of pages is done using a NUMPAGES field. I seem to recall there was a way to have the NUMPAGES field restart at each section, which would work in this case, but I don't see that switch or option anywhere. Suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Beej

    Beej,

I believe the item you want is SectionPages. It can be inserted as a field in the footer using Quick Parts on the Insert tab.

Why the heck isn't that field part of the Document Information category? That's a rhetorical question. Dumb, Microsoft, dumb.

    Thanks!
