Word fills in the entire line in black (Word XP)

I have a friend who just installed Office XP on many of his companies pcs. In only one case, when the user begins typing in a new document, the entire line is highlighted. None of the other programs display this 'feature'. He has uninstalled and re-installed Office. He has tried different keyboards.

    Any ideas or similar experiences?

    TIA

Re: Word fills in the entire line in black (Word XP)

I don't have XP installed, but this sounds like the default font has paragraph shading turned on.
    Perhaps by a damaged normal.dot
I would rename or delete normal.dot so default preferences can be re-established.

    Good luck,
