At times I have to reboot to allow a file to be deleted.

You can also try to add Take Ownership to your right click context menu. Then right click the file and choose Take ownership, then try to delete.

Even more powerful than Take Ownership is to GrantAdminFullControl.

    Hi Ted
Was able to delete after a reboot.
Any idea what would suddenly cause this type of error?
    Many thanks

Probably because it was still being used by something as maybe a shared file. Rebooting stopped the use for short time so could be deleted.

All typing errors are my own work and subject to patents pending. Except errors by the spell checker. And that has its own patients.
