Unhappy "Link to Previous" Malfunction in Word 2010 Headers & Footers

    Hi,
I have a problem using the : "Link to Previous" function in Word 2010, in the headers & Footers Navigation tab on the "infamous" ribbon. The problem is that this function is greyed out and thus cannot be used. How can I overcome this please?

The first or only section of a document has this function greyed out--since there is no previous section. But in later sections, it should work. Can you explain a bit more about your document?

Hi Pam, Thanks for the response. My document is a multi-page, booklet with a table of contents. I want to hide the header and footer (with page numbers) from the table of contents pages. But set them to display on the following pages of my booklet. Hope you get my meaning.
    Regards, David.

For headers and footers already in place: Place a next page section break at the end of the table of contents (on the second lone paragraph mark ( ) after the TOC). Go to the next page (section 2) and set the header and footer for that section so that it is not linked to previous. Then go to the first section and delete the header and footer content there.

For empty headers and footers: After creating and unlinking section 2, add the header and footer contents there.

    HTH,

Thanks Pam. It works great. I also found the Word 2010 Help topic on sections, creating and manipulating them. Why didn't I think of looking into "sections" b4???
    Thanks again, regards,
    David

Almost nobody does, including me. I found out the same way you did--by reading the forums. Thanks for letting us know.
