    Question Secunia Glitch

    Hi Loungers,
I have just installed the latest release of CCleaner on my pc. I then ran a scan with Secunia 3.0 and its still showing the old version.
(Also in CCleaner, it shows Avast 6, I've been using version 7 for some time.)
    How accurate is Secunia ????

    RR,

Did you Uninstall those products or did you install the new versions over the old ones? Installing over old versions can leave registry entries/files from the old version if the installer isn't programmed to entirely remove the older versions. It's often a good idea to uninstall older versions yourself before installing newer versions IMHO.

Hi RG, normally CCleaner installs over the old version without problems, it also means my settings are retained.

Secunia bases revision detection on certain files that may be left behind after updates and/or uninstalls. I got tired of the false warnings in Secunia and quit using the program.

Secunia is not too bad at keeping a system updated. I also use Filehippo Update Checker.

I have found similar problems with Secunia, could not having Java installed be the cause !!!

Java is only required for Secunia's On Line Scanner. The downloadable Personal Security Inspector that runs locally does not require Java.

I have just re-checked Secunia's entries and all are now correct.

Would it not be reasonable to expect CCleaner to remove the old entries, thus avoiding the problem?

I use CCleaner and then immediately run Glary Utilities, which always identifies a ton of stuff in the registry that CCleaner does not.
