    Boot.bcd Missing

When I try to boot into Windows 8 I am told "the file /BOOT.BCD is missing". How do I sort this out?

    Run:
    bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

    From your bootdisk,

    Then...

    bcdboot c:\Windows /s c: /l en-us

    Roy,

Did you do anything different just prior to shutting down your PC? I would be anxious to figure out what I did if this happened to me. I'm always playing around and fudging things up. As Clint shows, you can fix this, but need either an installation disk or rescue disk to access the Recovery Console Command Prompt.

Thanks CLiNT and Medico. The Win 8 drive is failing and I could not open the drive to make an up to date Macrium Reflect backup. I had a backup that's only a few days old, but wanted to make an up to the minute one, although the previous one would have been good enough. (I had not accessed the drive recently, except to copy a few installation files from Win 7). The commands CLiNT gave me worked, inasmuch as I can now access the contents of the drive from Windows 7, although I cannot boot into Windows 8, and I have made an up to date backup.

As soon as a replacement drive is installed I will restore Windows 8 from the Macrium backup.

    Again, sincere thanks.

If you are dual booting, which I had previously not known, that would complicate things slightly.
Perhaps input on repairing a specific OS's boot records from someone else here who is also booting more than one OS would be helpful.
I do not dual boot as I have no need or desire too, and therefore have little experience in repairing in such circumstances.

CLiNT, I apologise for not mentioning specifically that I dual boot-I didn't realise that dual booting would affect the repair process.
