TiddleWiki does not save after removing Java

In Issue 371 (2013-01-24), Woody Leonhard recommended disabling Java. Since doing this, I have been unable to save my TiddlyWiki (saved on my hard drive). I have tried Firefox and Chrome. With Java enabled I had no problems on Chrome, but when I occasionally used Firefox it no longer permitted me to save changes (the TiddlyWiki site advises that there are various problems with saving in the latest versions of Firefox. I can only come up with two options: (1) to use Firefox as my main browser, and to use Chrome (with Java enabled) just for saving my TiddlyWiki; OR (2) to move my TiddlyWiki onto a USB stick, with a portable version of Firefox 3.6.x (I have tried this but Firefox wants me to upgrade to a later, “safer” version). If I choose option (1) – my preferred option – are there any issues with enabling Java just to allow me to save files to my local hard drive? Can anyone suggest other ways to overcome my problem?

If you want to use a browser just to edit your wiki, there will be no security risks from doing it. Anytime you go online with that browser, though, there is some risk involved. Be sure to keep Java updated, as well.

It does seem as though Java has gotten a lot of press recently, with more risks found every time something is patched. As long as all your normal browsing is via FF (without Java) there should be no added security problems. I see no real problems with using your option 1.

I would, in addition to keeping Java up to date, make sure your AV/AM apps are up to date as well. In my scenario I also have MalwareBytes Pro (paid version) and Spybot Search and Destroy (free version) running in real time along with my AV/AM app and both a S/W and H/W firewall. These steps can help to eliminate risks when surfing, no matter which browser.

TiddleWiki does not save after removing Java

Thanks for the information, ruirib and Medico, and for confirming that I can use chrome with java to save my TiddlyWikis, but not access the Internet with Chrome. I will get onto this tomorrow.
    Kind regards
